Inspect Partition Layout with Get-Partition
List every partition on every disk with its number, drive letter, type, and size using the Storage module.
01Command
$ Get-Partition | Select-Object DiskNumber, PartitionNumber, DriveLetter, Type, @{n='SizeGB';e={[math]::Round($_.Size/1GB,1)}} | Sort-Object DiskNumber, PartitionNumber02What it does
Get-Volume shows letters and free space but hides partitions that have no letter — the EFI System Partition, Recovery partition, and MSR, which is exactly what you need before resizing or clean-installing. Get-Partition exposes Type (System, Recovery, Basic, IFS), PartitionNumber for use with Remove-Partition or Resize-Partition, and MbrType/GptType GUIDs. Pipe one partition to Get-Volume or Add-PartitionAccessPath to assign a letter to a hidden recovery partition.
