Run Format-Volume -DriveLetter E -FileSystem exFAT -NewFileSystemLabel "USB64" in an admin PowerShell (pick the file system you need).

01Command

Command
$ Format-Volume -DriveLetter E -FileSystem exFAT -NewFileSystemLabel "USB64"

02What it does

Format-Volume is the PowerShell equivalent of right-click > Format, with every option as a parameter: -FileSystem picks exFAT (large files, Windows+Mac compatible), FAT32 (maximum device compatibility, 4 GB file limit) or NTFS (Windows-only, permissions). Add -Full for a thorough format that verifies sectors, or -Force to format volumes that hold something mounted. Confirm the letter with Get-Volume first — this command doesn't ask twice.

03Risk

RequirementsRun PowerShell as administrator. Double-check the drive letter — formatting erases everything on it.
!Warning: Formatting destroys all data on the volume immediately — there's no confirmation prompt. Verify the drive letter carefully, especially with multiple removable drives plugged in.

04Undo

✓No undo needed — this command does not change persistent state.
