Read Large Files Comfortably with less
Page through huge files instantly, with search and line numbers built in.
01Command
$ less -N ~/Documents/bigfile.txt02What it does
less never loads the whole file, so a 2 GB log opens as fast as a small one — cat would flood your screen and an editor would grind. Press / then type a word to search (n for next match), G to jump to the end, and q to quit. -N adds line numbers for referencing; -S stops long lines from wrapping. less +F file acts like tail -f for following a growing log.

04Undo
✓No undo needed — this command does not change persistent state.
05Sources
- less – Opposite of more (file pager)Evidence: less loads files lazily and pages them; -N displays line numbers, / searches, q quits.
