List Installed Python Packages with pip on Windows
See every Python package installed in the current environment and export a requirements list.
Run `pip list --format=columns` to see installed packages, or `pip freeze > requirements.txt` to export them.
01Command
Command
$ pip list --format=columns02What it does
Before updating, sharing a project, or debugging an import error, you need to know which packages the current Python environment contains. `pip list` prints them in a readable table, and `pip freeze` outputs them in requirements-file format so another machine can reproduce the exact setup with pip install -r. Both are read-only and safe to run any time.
03Risk
!Warning: The list reflects whichever Python/pip runs first in your PATH — use `py -m pip list` or activate your venv first if you have several Pythons installed.
04Undo
✓No undo needed — this command does not change persistent state.
05Sources
- pip list | pip documentationEvidence: pip list shows installed packages; --format controls output (columns, freeze, json); pip freeze exports requirements format.
