Inspect Any Disk or Volume with diskutil info
Get the device node, filesystem, SMART health, and APFS role of any volume from one command.
01Command
$ diskutil info /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD02What it does
diskutil info is the fastest way to map a friendly volume name to its device identifier, which every other disk command expects. The output includes the APFS container it belongs to, per-volume roles like Data or Preboot, encryption status, and SMART overall status for the physical disk. Combine with `diskutil list` to see the whole partition topology at a glance.
