Recover the OEM Windows Key Embedded in Firmware

Read the product key burned into UEFI/BIOS by the manufacturer — the key a clean Windows install reuses automatically.

Run wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey in a command prompt; the embedded key prints on the next line (blank means none is stored).

Command
$ wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

02What it does

Branded PCs (Dell, HP, Lenovo, and most prebuilts from the Windows 8 era onward) have their Windows product key burned into the ACPI/UEFI firmware, and activation picks it up automatically on reinstall. The SoftwareLicensingService WMI class exposes it as OA3xOriginalProductKey, so this one query recovers the key without sticker hunting or third-party key finders. A blank result usually means the machine uses a digital license tied to your Microsoft account (check with slmgr /dli) or the key was never embedded, as on self-built desktops. Note that WMIC is deprecated in Windows 11 builds, where the PowerShell equivalent is (Get-CimInstance SoftwareLicensingService).OA3xOriginalProductKey.
