Update all packages on Fedora with dnf
Refresh repository metadata and upgrade every installed package to its latest available version on DNF-based systems.
01Command
$ sudo dnf upgrade02What it does
dnf upgrade resolves dependencies, downloads new RPMs, and removes any package marked obsolete; 'dnf update' is an alias that does the same. DNF refreshes metadata automatically (by default when it is older than 48 hours), so no separate 'update metadata' step is needed. Install a single package's update with sudo dnf upgrade <name>, preview with dnf check-update, and search history after a problem with dnf history — the matching dnf history undo <id> can roll a transaction back. On RHEL 8/9 the equivalent tool may be invoked as microdnf or yum (a dnf symlink).

- DNF Command ReferenceEvidence: The DNF command reference documents 'dnf upgrade' as upgrading each package to the latest available version, obsoleting 'update'.
