Enable USB debugging, plug in, accept the phone's authorization prompt, then run adb devices to list the device and adb install app.apk to sideload.

01Command

Command
$ adb devices && adb install ~/Downloads/app.apk

02What it does

adb (Android Debug Bridge, packaged as android-tools on most distros) is the bridge between Linux and an Android device. 'adb devices' is the sanity check: it shows a serial number and 'device' state when the phone trusts your computer — the first run triggers an authorization dialog on the phone itself. adb install pushes and installs an APK, adb uninstall removes a package, and adb shell drops into the phone's command line.

!Warning: If the device shows 'unauthorized' or 'offline', re-check the phone screen for the RSA prompt; and only sideload APKs from sources you trust.
